Re: This is for bbover and the IBM guys ..

:D I never check BOINCstats so I didn't even realized my machine had moved up to #3 lol! Thanks MM! Looking at My Grid, it's grinding out about 60k per day on WCG. It really seems to like HCMD2!

The #17 machine is my wifes. It runs on air cooling so clock speed is down to 3.6GHz whereas I had it running at 4.1 when it was water cooled im my rig. I'm still trying to convince her she needs 64 bit Win 7 but no dice yet. ;)

yup, things a beast! biggrin
These 32nm 6 core chips are just sweet to work with.
Cool running at reasonable speeds and they do produce the work.

Re: This is for bbover and the IBM guys ..

I was thinking of selling on my i7-920 in favour of an i7-860 or similar.
Today I saw an interesting version, the i7-860S.
Although this is only 2.53GHz, and the i7-860 is 2.8GHz, the i7-860S has a TDP of 82W, some 13W less. The thing is, with Turbo Boost on both CPUs can do 3.46GHz (turbo boost on the i7-920 is not so giving). So with Turbo left on, and without even the hint of a tweak, I would be getting 0.24GHz more than my modestly clocked i7-920. The idea is of course to save on the Watts and even 48W adds up over a year.
I might opt to wait for a 32nm i7, but they could be a bit pricey for some time. I hope there are other 32nm i7s on the horizon, even if they just have 4 cores.

Wait for the 32nm 6 cores, you'll be glad you did.. biggrin

Movieman,

Did you plug the kill a watt? I'm interested in the power consumption of the system.

Thanks
